Being Binary

To explore what it means to embody a binary logic, I created a performance in which I spent 12 hours writing binary codes inside the walls of an public elevator.

The walls of the cylindrical elevator was covered in graph paper upon with I wrote 1's and 0's while chanting out loud 101010... creating a resonant echo chamber.

People continued to use the elevator during the duration of the performance. Some stayed significantly longer than a regular elevator trip while others were too scared to even enter.

When asked to reflect, those who experienced the performance recall it being: powerful, and haunting.

I had a blood line tattoo of the numbers 0 and 1 on my forehead and avoided eye contact while responding with only 1's and 0's when confronted to communicate.

The performance took place from midnight to noon.
